The highest ideal of cure is rapid, gentle and permanent restoration of health... in the shortest, most reliable, and most harmless way
Samuel Hahnemann, Founder of Homeopathy
What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is an effective, safe and natural way to address illness and optimise your health. It is a holistic system of medicine which uses naturally occurring substances to stimulate the body's own ability to overcome illness.
Homeopathy was developed by German physician and chemist, Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843) in response to his own dissatisfaction with the conventional medical treatments at the time. Through tireless experimentation and observation he rediscovered the ancient principle of a Law of Similars which states that a substance that can produce particular symptoms can also cure them.
The Greek physician and father of modern medicine, Hippocrates (4th century B.C.), was aware of two way of healing: the way of Similars and the way of Opposites. He emphasised the importance of accurate observation of the patient as a whole, stating 'I would rather know what kind of person has a disease than what kind of disease a person has.'
Homeopathy is safe, effective, affordable and ecologically sound. It has supported millons of men, women and children worldwide through all the phases of life from childbirth, adolescence and middle life through to old age.
How can it be of use?
You are central to your healing process. The human body has an innate and highly effective healing system which produces symptoms that point to both the cause of and the solution to the underlying cause of illness. Homeopathy recognises your particular symptoms as signals from your body. Our job is to read these signals and then provide the correct matching stimulus in the form of remedies.
In taking a holistic approach to health and well-being, homeopathy considers the whole person with their mental, emotional and physical aspects, rather than only looking at the presenting symptoms. Personal history, family history, personality, temperament and sensitivities, as well as environmental factors and external stress are all seen as being important in ascertaining the root causes of the illness.
Homeopathy can recognise and address hidden causes of illness such as old trauma, inherited patterns of illness, personal susceptibilites and toxicity among other things. This approach can help to ensure a lasting relief from symptoms and deeper sense of wellbeing.
Homeopathy is effective in acute illnesses as well as chronic complaints, whether physical , emotional, mental or spiritual.
The Homeopathic Consultation
At Chrysalis you will be offered a safe and confidential space in which to share all aspects of your illness and how it is affecting you at this time. The homeopath listens carefully and respectfully, exploring with you the difficulties you are experiencing and what your needs are. After careful analysis a treatment plan will be suggested. As part of this we will prescribe homeopathic remedies. If appropriate we may also prescribe vitamin/mineral supplements, flower essences, herbal tinctures or other therapies such as cranio-sacral therapy which will complement the homeopathic treatment.
The first consultation takes between one and a half and two hours in order to get a detailed picture of your current symptoms, your lifestyle, character and personal and family medical history. Based on this in-depth information, homeopathic remedies are carefully chosen to suit the totality of your symptoms. These remedies will begin the process of healing, according to what needs to be cured.
A shorter follow up consultation then takes place a number of weeks after the first homeopathic remedies have been given. At this consultation, the homeopath can review how the journey of healing is progressing, and consider the longer treatment plan. Long-term chronic illness requires longer term treament, while more recent illnesses may be resolved more quickly, depending on the underlying cause.
We also offer acute phone consultations for day-to-day illnesses such as infections, colds, flu and minor injuries. These may be up to half an hour in duration.
